1. Funding Details
The above named client intends to use part of the proceeds of a loan from/grant administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the Bank) towards the cost of the above named project.
Additional financing information:
Also, European Investment Bank , Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Française de Développement (“AFD”) are considering to jointly finance the project with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The Government of Egypt is also expected to contribute to the Project.
2. Information on the Project
Project Description:
- The Project aims to finance the upgrade and electrification of an existing rail line connecting downtown Alexandria and north-eastern town Abou Qir (“Abou Qir line”) into a high capacity metro system.
- The investment programme is envisaged to finance (i) the electrification of track and power infrastructure, (ii).the upgrade of signalling, telecommunications and centralised control systems and (iii) civil works including viaduct, tunnelling, track works and upgrading of station facilities , (iv) rolling stock, (v) project-related public Utilities diversion works; (vi) operation & maintenance; and (vii) PIU ,Contract Management and Construction Supervision consultant.
- The Project is expected to be the first phase of the first high capacity metro line in Alexandria connecting Abou Qir to El Amiria and Borg El Arab in the west.

Contracts will be subject to the Bank's Procurement Policies and Rules and are open for participation for firms from any country, unless otherwise specified in the procurement documents.
